Eric Snow is the executive director of watchdogs; and is a husband to his wife Valerie of 33 years, and two grown kids Zac and Alyssa. Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering.
A school can buy the start-up kit, take a short training session via conference call, and then just follow the guidelines. It’s always been the idea to invite the fathers and father figures to take a day off of work and spend the whole day volunteering at school. This program reaches specifically to the man, and there are so many dads who are willing to participate when they receive the invitation. We’re at 5348 schools across 47 states; and this last year right at half a million men volunteered at least 1 full day in their child’s school.
Study after study by the department of education and the department of human services have shown that a child that has a positive adult male role model who is actively engaged in their life is twice as likely to graduate high school. We have a unique ability to impact our child’s education. Our goals are to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important, and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance schools security and reduce bullying.
More about Eric:
Eric Snow is the Executive Director of WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), a father-engagement and educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering.
In 1998, Eric helped create a program in his children’s school that was designed to provide fathers and father figures with the opportunity to be uniquely involved in the educational process of their children. With the goals of enhancing school safety and providing positive male role models, the first WATCH D.O.G.S. program was born. Eric was instrumental in developing the vision for WATCH D.O.G.S. and is credited with giving the program its name. Eric served on the Board of Directors for WATCH D.O.G.S. for more than 5 years.
